See the Difference

Our Physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropodist have varied work and educational experiences, yet prescribe to a patient-centred model of care, utilizing an evidence-informed approach.

Our Services

Multi-disciplinary management of pain and functional impairment

Whether you have strained your back, or had recent surgery, our therapists have been trained and are experienced in helping you manage your pain and to nurture you back to your fullest potential.  Our core services are Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, and Chiropody.

Physiotherapy

All of our Physiotherapists are in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and maintain special interests in areas such as sports injuries, management of degenerative joint and inflammatory joint conditions, post-surgical care, and pelvic floor rehabilitation to name a few.

Massage Therapy

Massage is the oldest known healing art.  By using therapeutic touch through massage, a registered massage therapist can effectively reduce the pain caused by a headache or sprain and strains caused by a car accident or sports related injury.  A massage can help reduce chronic and acute stress and allow you to feel relaxed which causes the body to release endorphin hormones that relieve pain and muscular tension.

Physiotherapy at Home

Healthy aging at home is a priority for many older adults.  Our physiotherapists have had extensive experience helping patients in the comfort of their own home following surgeries such as total hip or total knee replacements, car accidents, or after a prolonged stay in a hospital.  Many of our patients choose to stay home in order to protect themselves from the community spread of COVID-19 while receiving care in a familiar environment.  Whether you have strained your back or knee or are recovering from a complex surgery, let our Physiotherapists guide you and optimize your recovery.  Our staff will arrive with the appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to all strategies designed to mitigate the effects of COVID-19.  We have the ability handle the necessary paperwork if you require physiotherapy at home following a car accident, and can help you navigate your insurance policy. If you require additional details, please email us at info@stgeorgephysio.ca.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of your pelvic floor and may be indicated for a variety of diagnoses such as stress/urge incontinence, chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, chronic pelvic pain, etc.

Post-cancer rehabilitation

The role of exercise in the management of symptoms associated with cancer has been studied in great detail.  Exercise may be indicated to help manage symptoms of fatigue, weakness, decrease strength, depression, and pain.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a safe and effective technique in the management of chronic tendon pain as well as increased tightness in muscles of your body.

Bracing

Bracing is a safe and effective technique used to decrease the range of motion and stresses around a particular area.  Braces may be over the counter or customized to specific areas such as the knee.

Concussion Management

Have one of our physiotherapists guide you to a safe and efficient return to sport after suffering a concussion.

"A concussion is a traumatic brain injury induced by biomechanical forces, which may be caused either by a direct blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere on the body with an impulsive force transmitted to the head (1)”. It requires immediate attention and care to prevent further injury and chronic impairment.  Headaches, dizziness, nausea, light and sound sensitivity, difficulty with attention, concentration and memory and sleep disturbances are some common symptoms following Concussion.

Concussion management and rehabilitation can help to limit impairments and expedite recovery, especially if symptoms persist beyond the first few days following the injury. Our trained physiotherapists will utilize varying treatment options including education around the injury, vestibular rehabilitation, Ocular/visual rehabilitation, cardiovascular training and manual therapy for cervical spine dysfunction in order to guide you through your recovery following a concussion.

Acupuncture

Service Highlights

shoulder muscle tightness

Dry Needling

Dry Needling, much like acupuncture, that uses fine needles inserted into taut bands of muscle to decrease tightness.  It is useful in many acute and chronic pain conditions.

Active Release Technique (ART)

ART is the use of manual soft tissue manipulation to release tough, dense scar tissue that has accumulated as a result of injury or dysfunction.  Abnormal tissue is treated using very specific pressures to soft tissue and active movement to decrease the tension and scar tissue that has accumulated.

Manual Therapy

Publicly-Funded Coverage

Physiotherapy

Contrary to common belief, there is publicly-covered Physiotherapy in Ontario.  Some outpatient Physiotherapy clinics in Ontario offer coverage for Physiotherapy through OHIP.  In order to determine if you are eligible for Publicly-Funded Physiotherapy, please click on the following link: https://www.ontario.ca/page/physiotherapy-clinics-ohip-funded

St. George Physiotherapy Clinic is one of the few providers of publicly-funded Physiotherapy services in our local Ontario Health region.  Please call or email us if you require further details.

Have you had a hip, knee, or shoulder replacement for the first time?

St. George Physiotherapy offers physiotherapy treatment covered by the hospital where you have had your hip, knee, or shoulder replacement if you have had your surgery in Ontario.  You must not have received any publicly-funded outpatient Physiotherapy and you need your surgeon's referral note as well as the bundled funding package from your hospital in order to be considered.  Please contact us if you need further details.

Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)

In Canada, the IFHP provides limited, temporary coverage of health-care benefits to people in the following groups who aren’t eligible for provincial or territorial (PT) health insurance:

  • protected persons, including resettled refugees;
  • refugee claimants

Physiotherapy is covered under the benefits.  If you are part of one of the above groups of patients, please call the clinic for further details on how to access the service under The IFHP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@stgeorgephysio.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Physiotherapy is covered under public-funding if you satisfy the eligibility criteria at  Physiotherapy clinics (government-funded) | ontario.ca.  Please note that you need a valid OHIP card to initiate treatment.  Funding covers the initial consult, diagnosis, physiotherapy treatment, and discharge.  The amount of treatment is determined by the treating Physiotherapist.

Discharge from the program for an episode of care occurs when therapeutic objectives have been achieved, when no further gains are likely to be achieved, or any gains in outcomes can be achieved through a self-management or exercise program.  Discharge from the program may also occur if patients have not followed up with their physiotherapist as per their recommendations.  In this case we may attempt to get an update from you on your health status, and if we are not able to get in touch with you after a reasonable number of attempts and it has been over a month from your last visit, we may discharge you without notice from further care at our facility.

Your physiotherapist may make recommendations about goods, services or products that may further help you with your recovery.  We may carry or provide some of these goods, products, or services (such as massage therapy, braces, splints, and exercise equipment) for purchase at the clinic.  You will be notified about the costs of any of these good, services, or products if they are not covered under public-funding.  You are under no obligation to purchase any of these goods, products or services and/or have the option of purchasing them elsewhere.

Procedures under the bundled funding program in Ontario which includes shoulder or knee or hip replacement surgery may require physiotherapy.  Physiotherapy for these services may be accessed and covered at St George Physiotherapy Clinic.  In order to determine whether you will be covered for these services, please ask your surgeon's office to forward us (via fax at 416.921.4632 or via email at info@stgeorgephysio.ca) your arthroplasty outpatient physiotherapy package.  This package provides us with information regarding your procedure, post-operative protocol, a discharge summary form as well as invoicing instructions.  We will then notify you once we have made the determination, and set up appontments accordingly.

Due to the high demand we have for publicly-funded physiotherapy services at our clinic, we have a wait-list.  We attempt to get to patients as quickly as possible, but are limited with how many patients we may be able to see.  We encourage patients to call other clinics that provide publicly-funded services in order to determine whether they can be assessed any earlier.  Other publicly-funded clinics in our vicinity can be found at  Physiotherapy - Programs and Services - Public Information - MOHLTC (gov.on.ca)

Due to the high demand of services at our facility, we have a strict cancellation/appointment change policy.  We prefer a 48-hour cancellation/appointment change notification, and if we are not notified at least 48 hours ahead of time, we will assess a no-show fee equivalent to the value of the service that was booked.  Patients under our publicly-funded stream who do not give us sufficient notice for an assessment, will be assessed a $110 charge, and you will forfeit your ability to re-book for an assessment and will be added to our waitlist.  Patients under the publicly-funded stream at our facility will not be re-issued any missed follow-up appointments or follow-up appointments with under 48 hours of cancellation notice.  Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration but final decision regarding whether the clinic received sufficient notice will be left to clinic management.

St George Physiotherapy may be able to directly bill your insurer for services provided at our facility.  Currently, we may be able to bill directly the following insurers:

  • Greenshield
  • Great West Life
  • ManuLife
  • Sun Life Financial
  • Desjardins Insurance
  • Industrial Alliance
  • Blue Cross
  • Johnson
  • Johnston Group
  • Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan
  • CINUP
  • Cowan
  • First Canadian Insurance Corporation
  • Group Health Benefit Solutions
